24/7 Youth Film Festival
Feedback response from the Organising Committee

Hi 24/7 Youth Film participants! We hope you enjoyed this year’s festival and are already dreaming up script ideas for next year. And fear not – we are busy dreaming up new and bizarre phrases and items for the 2013 competition!

Thanks to everyone who has given us feedback about the 2012 festival.  We love hearing positive messages!  And thanks too to those who give us critical feedback – we are always keen to look at ways to improve 24/7.

In response to feedback we’ve received, the 24/7 committee wants to give participants and their families some info about our processes.

Who could enter 24/7 in 2012?  Anyone between 12 and 24 years of age.  It’s a broad playing field, with emerging through to experienced film-makers.  For the emerging film makers, we offer workshops, exposure to industry professionals, and awards for schools, under 15’s and under 18’s film makers.  We love seeing competitors develop over the years – many of our senior competitors first entered when they were 12!  Let us know if you have extra suggestions around how to better celebrate young film makers.

The 24/7 committee is proud of our judging process.  All submitted films are viewed by the committee – complete with glitches! – and then a top ten is identified.  The top ten films are viewed by a panel of esteemed judges – including professionals from the film industry and youth representatives.  Films are marked on cinematography, acting, editing, audio (including music), script, originality/creativity and overall impression.  No competitors ever participate in the judging process, and each judge conducts their scoring independently.

Sometimes a standout film will take home a lot of prizes.  Happily, there are lots of awards categories up for grabs, so even if your film isn’t the most technically slick, you’re still in the running for prizes.  Let us know if you have tips about alternative prizes or judging categories.

The 2012 24/7 Film Festival was run by a committee made up of representatives from the organising councils, and Coordinator Edith Magnussen.  No competitors or sponsors sit on the organising committee. The Festival is sponsored and supported by a wide array of businesses and individuals.  We really appreciate them!  We can confirm that sponsors do not enter the competition.

Please drop us a line or give us a call if you have any ideas you want to pass along about the 24/7 Youth Film Festival.

Regards and see you in 2013!
